Teeth Whitening Products Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, teeth whitening is one of the safest procures a dentist can perform.  It’s an effective way to remove stains and discolorations from you teeth to brighten your smile.  There may be temporary tooth sensitivity or gum irritation that usually resolves itself within a few days.

Teeth Whitening results will vary person to person.  A person’s diet, consumption of foods and beverages that stain teeth, makes a difference.   Most results last 3-6 months with good hygiene habits.

Active ingredients in our whitening products are Hydrogen Peroxide and Carbamide Peroxide.  Both have been proven to be safe teeth whitening agents.

Teeth whitening only works to remove stains from natural enamel.  Dental work such as bonding, crowns, and veneers will not get whiter.  Our teeth whitening products do not harm prior dental work such as bonding, crowns, or veneers.

Teeth whitening products can cause temporary increase in tooth sensitivity that may last 24-48 hours.   We recommend to stop using whitening products for at least 24 hours when feeling increased tooth sensitivity.  A sensitivity toothpaste may provide the necessary relief.

We recommend 3-5 days of consecutive use for best results. Remember to use good hygiene and to avoid staining foods for the first 24-48 hours after whitening.

We recommend waiting an hour before consuming food or beverages.  You may drink water at any time.  For the first 24-48 after whitening we encourage you to stay away from colored foods or beverages that may stain your teeth (i.e. Juice, sauces, red wine, etc..)

Teeth Whitening products can last up to 2 years when stored in a cool, dark place.  We recommend keeping whitening products in the back of your refrigerator.  When not stored properly, shelf life can diminish.

For best teeth whitening results we recommend a recent dental cleaning.  Plaque or calculus on teeth will hinder the teeth whitening outcome.

We recommend to have your teeth checked and cleaned by a licensed dentist before proceeding with any whitening treatment.  Placing Hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide in a tooth cavity can cause severe discomfort.   The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends to see your dentist every 6 months for a routine exam and cleaning.
